How to Come Up With Blog Post Ideas

Last time, we talked about the importance of creating your “home base” for promoting yourself and establishing your own distinctive brand online.

Once you’ve created a WordPress blog as your “home base”, it’s time to begin adding fresh content. This is where many people stumble and draw a blank. It can be challenging to come up with things to write about, especially if you are fairly new to blogging. You understand the concept of promoting yourself as a leader, not just pitching your network marketing opportunity, but what do you blog about to accomplish this?

Don’t feel bad if you struggle at first to come up with topics for content. I believe that just about everyone doing this will occasionally experience times when they just don’t really know what they should write about.

ideas for blog posts and website articles

As home business builders and MLM network marketing leaders, we want to provide value and insight to our readers so that they have reason to keep coming back for more. Bear in mind that some visitors to your blog will be serious opportunity seekers, and many will visit a few times and review your content before they feel comfortable contacting you. Thus, you really want to put some thought and effort into this.

Here are a few ideas about what you can write about, which will work well for home business builders and network marketers. You have to use some imagination and integrate these ideas with your own personal experiences, but they can help you get started.

Think about your experiences in building your business and how you’ve overcome obstacles, and write about them. Talk about how and why you got started, and things you’ve learned along the way.

Many of your prospects will ask the same questions over and over – take these “frequently asked questions” and talk about how you answer them. Some common questions might be:

How much money can I make in network marketing?

How much time do I have to put into it?

Can I do this if I have a very tight budget?

Can I really build a business if I work a full-time job?

And so forth…you can build an entire post or article around questions like these.

Read a book or good article about MLM, home business, social networking, or self development.  Pick out parts that resonate with you, and write about them from your own experience and perspective.

Share and comment on a video (from YouTube or elsewhere) that you’ve seen that encouraged you or gave  you insight that helped you in your business.

When you read something online that inspires you, perhaps a business building tip or something that motivates you to action, create a post that relates it to your own personal experience. Don’t just copy it.

Create a “how to do something” post. This can be about anything you’ve learned to do for your business. For example: “How to Set Up an Autoresponder Follow-Up System” or “How to Notify Your Warm Market About Your New Network Marketing Business“.

Go to Google and search for keywords like “MLM message boards” or “network marketing forums”. Visit these boards and scan the topics. Look for questions and problems that networkers are asking about, and write posts for your blog with comments and answers.

Create list type posts. These tend to draw interest and attention, but don’t overdo them. For example: “Top 5 Things to Look For in an MLM Product” or “Ten Top Questions to Ask About a Network Marketing Opportunity“.

These are just a few ideas you can use to get your creative juices flowing. An important thing to keep in mind – just relax and be yourself. Write from your own perspective and experience, and don’t worry about being perfect. You’re not trying to be a professional writer, but rather a communicator. Prospects visiting your blog are interested in learning more about you and who you really are. Be yourself.

Creating Your “Home Base” for Online MLM Success

setting up your own blog for online MLM succcessAre you ready to create a successful online MLM business? Let’s talk about the first thing you need to do in order to get things rolling in the right direction.

In order to effectively promote your opportunity online, what you want to do is to create a name, or a “brand” for yourself. For long term success, your objective is to brand and sell yourself, not your specific business opportunity.

Typically, there are two traditional approaches to getting started with online MLM.

  • linking to and promoting a company replicated site that promotes your products and business

Problem: these replicated sites offer little ability to customize, and one looks pretty much like another. This won’t help you stand out from the crowd.

  • starting your own blog or website with emphasis on your MLM products or opportunity

Problem: this type of site is okay to use as a secondary site, but shouldn’t be your primary online base.

A key to ongoing success in MLM, both online and offline, is establishing yourself as a leader and creating relationships with people. You don’t want to be known as “that person who sells the XYZ products”. Rather, you want to be known as “Joe or Jane…successful home business owner…”.

See the difference? You are your own best asset. By branding yourself and focusing on building relationships and what you can do for others, you are setting yourself up as a leader who will naturally attract people seeking opportunity.

The first thing I recommend that you do, when beginning to seriously promote your MLM business online, is establish a “home base” that will be your primary site. This is where people will go to learn more about you and what you can do to help them. What you’re all about.

Ideally, your home base should be a domain with your name in it – for example, mine is “eldonbeard.com”. If you find that yourname.com is already taken, try to find something by putting other words around your name or use a dash.

There are other possibilities too. Just be creative. Do a Google search for keywords related to home business and MLM, and see what others are doing. You can brainstorm and get lots of ideas this way.

Once you’ve chosen and registered your domain name, set up a WordPress blog. The blog format is very interactive, and allows visitors to leave comments and have discussions. This is what you want. By posting to your blog frequently, you increase your chances of getting visitors through search engine traffic.

One common question I hear is “if I start a blog, what do I write about?” For many people, this can be a struggle. I can assure you, though, that you don’t have to be a professional writer to write decent blog posts. Blogging by nature is not supposed to be rigid or formal – it’s more an expression of you, your personality, and your own unique style.

Next week, I’ll be back with some ideas and “post starters” to help you come up with topics to write about when your mind is drawing a blank. Stay tuned!

What Is a Mission Statement and Why Does Every MLM Blog Need One?

  • null

The following is the Mission Statement for Starbucks:

“Our mission is to inspire and nurture the human spirit – one person, one cup and one neighborhood at a time.”

It’s simple and it’s sincere. And, everyone that does business with Starbucks gets it.

Many network marketers and MLM’ers who blog make the mistake of not taking the time to craft a mission statement for their blog.

If you do not have one, I urge you to write one as soon as possible. Once you do, you will find that your prospective customers and business partners understand you better. You will begin working only with customers and partners who share your values. All of  your team members will have a better understanding of their purpose in your organization. You will also  find that it is much easier to make decisions about how to run your business.

Your mission statement should be a formal, short, written statement of your blog’s purpose. In a nutshell, it should answer the question “Why does this blog exist?”

If you’ve never developed a mission statement before, here are a few things it might address:
  • The purpose and intention of your blog (i.e., an explanation of what your blog is about and who will benefit from reading your blog)
  • What your aspirations for the blog are
  • What sets your blog head and shoulders above the rest of the network marketing and MLM blogs out there
  • Your core values, purpose, and future goals
  • The products and/or services that you offer and recommend

Your mission statement should be specific and narrow enough that it can’t apply to anyone else‘s blog. But, it should be written so that it is flexible enough to allow room for growth and change. Make sure that the statement is clear … by that I mean, it does not contain a bunch of buzz words or industry jargon and easy for potential clients and partners to understand.

Once you have your mission statement laid out, you can use it to help guide your blogging efforts,  laying out your blog’s basic design, providing content creation direction and cohesiveness, and also to assist you in directing your decision making process.

Blogging From Your Core Values Makes A HUGE Difference

There is one facet of your mission statement that is more important than all others: your core values.

Core values are those values  that form the foundation from which we do everything in life. The world is ever-changing, ever-evolving.  However, core values remain constant.

Core values are NOT descriptions of the work you do or the methodologies you use to accomplish your life’s mission. Rather, your values add definition and parameters to your work, how you interact with others, and which strategies you use to fulfill your mission. They are the basic elements governing how you go about your life and your work. They are the practices you use every day in everything you do.

Core values should:
  • Govern personal and business relationships
  • Guide business practices
  • Clarify who you are
  • Articulate what you stand for
  • Help explain why you do business the way you do
  • Guide you in how to teach others
  • Help you decide how to reward others
  • Guide you in making decisions
  • Require no external justification
Here is an example of my core values. These are the values that guide everything I blog about at the Attraction Marketing Training Kitchen:
  • I am committed to contributing to my readers’  financial and intellectual growth  and well-being.
  • I continually strive for excellence with all of my content, training, products and services.
  • I associate and do business with only those people and companies who share my commitment to integrity, excellence and service.
  • I strive to provide an environment that operates in the best interests of  everyone’s professional and personal growth.

Once you have written your mission statement and core values, add them to the “About” section of your blog. This a spot where everyone who visits your blog can see them and see you “walking your talk”.

Take the time review them on a regular basis with yourself and your readers. And always make sure when you are considering bringing a new business partner into your business they know this is what you stand for and why you are in business. Real people connect with other real people that they resonate with. Your blog allows the right people for you and your business to find you, get to know and pre-qualify themselves for your time, products and services.

It goes without saying, writing a mission statement and core values is simply not enough. What matters most is living them on a daily basis and showing people that you are a person of your word.

Use your mission statement to help you make decisions about your business – the  companies you partner with, the products you create and promote, the way in which you communicate with your visitors, readers and business associates. You will never have to second guess yourself and your integrity will never be questioned. You will always provide high value content rich information to everyone which will have them coming back to your blog over and over again.

Hope that you received some real value from this post! Be sure to leave some comments. And take a minute to share it with YOUR Tribe!!

MLM Blogging Tips – How To Engage 98-99% of Any Audience With Every Blog Post

To Blog Or Not To Blog

As network marketers and bloggers we are always looking for ways to earn our readers’ and subscribers’ trust, build rapport with them and get them to take ACTION.

What if I told you that there really is a fast, easy recipe, that when followed precisely,  allows you to communicate very effectively with a large diverse group of people ?

If you answer these 4 BASIC questions with your blog post, you will reach 98 – 99 % of ANY audience successfully.

This little recipe is something that I stumbled upon going through some of Andy Jenkins’ (The Video Boss),  Mike Koenigs’ (Traffic Geyser) and Alex Mandossian’s free training materials.

They each use this formula successfully to engage and endear themselves to the 4 major personality types that have been identified over the centuries.

These guys  have cultivated HUGE reader bases, opt-in lists and they get people to want to buy lots of their products and services 😉

The Traditional Personality Types

  • the Driver (Red, Ruby, Bear)
  • the Expressive (Blue, Sapphire, Monkey)
  • the Amiable (Yellow, Pearl, Dolphin)
  • the Analytical (Green, Emerald, Owl)

Each one of these different personality types learns differently. To get and keep their attention you have to communicate into their style and values. And you must keep in mind that they have VERY DIFFERENT attention spans !

The Personality Types Redefined For Marketers (shortest attention span to longest)

  • Sales (Persuaders and Motivators) 35% of your audience
  • Scholastics (Objectives and Outcomes) 18-20% of your audience
  • Technicals/Geeks (Operations and Processes) 25% of your audience
  • Marketers/Supporters/Evangelists (Out of the box Creatives and Visionary Opportunity Seekers) 20% of your audience
  • Each of these different personality types uses a different question for forming ideas about something and HOW you answer their questions gets them to take action.

    The 4 Questions

    • Sales ~ “Why?”
    • Scholastics ~ “What for?”
    • Technicals/Geeks ~ “How?”
    • Marketers/Supporters/Evangelists ~ “What if ?”

Here are some examples of the four questions…

Your message is “Opt-In and Get My Free Training Course….”

    1. Sales will ask “Why should I opt-in and get this training?”

You should answer this question with benefits.

For example, “This training course will show you how to blog like a Pro-Blogger in the shortest amount of time possible allowing you to start building your list very quickly.”

    2. Scholastics will ask “What purpose should I opt-in and get this training for?”

You should answer this question with practical results.

For example, “This training course will get you up and running on the internet with your own blog in less than 2 weeks. This will save you the time and expense of hiring and waiting for a professional designer to do this for you.”

    3. Technicals will ask “How does this training work?”

You should answer this question with processes or systems.

For example, “This training will be delivered to you via email over the next 7 days. In each email there will be a link to a video on my blog that will show you the things you need to do to get your blog up and running within 2 weeks. If you follow the videos precisely, your new blog will be customer ready in record time!”

    4. Marketers/Supporters/Evangelists will ask ” What if I get this free training to…??

You should answer this question by suggesting how they could use the free training in ways other than the obvious…

For example, “Here’s how you can use this free training to get more people on YOUR team and how it can help YOU earn more money through affiliate marketing!”

    The Secret Sauce

Cover all of these points in the following order to get the BEST results (think reader attention span here)

    • Why you should get this free training and how it will personally help you.
    • What this free training will do and what it will practically accomplish.
    • How this free training does what I say it does.
    • What are all the creative things that you can do with this free training.

When this type of structure is used, you will be able to connect effectively and efficiently with the largest number of people possible. This is a great way to start creating wonderful relationships with a broad spectrum of readers that start to know you, like you and trust you so that the next action they take, is what you want them to do through your call to action!

Hope that you received some real value from this post! Be sure to leave some comments. And take a minute to share it with YOUR Tribe!!
