You’ve got your MLM blog up and running. Whether your blog is focused on promoting YOU as a leader and attractive sponsor, or your opportunity specifically, what you’re looking for is traffic. You want visitors who might be interested in what you have to offer.

I believe that the best way, long-term, to get free traffic online is through consistent and smart use of social media resources like Facebook. The drawback here is that it takes time to get on top of it and start establishing trust and authority on these sites. In the meantime, while you are building up your social media presence, how can you start getting more visitors to your site?

Many MLM business owners are drawn to free or inexpensive advertising methods such as traffic exchanges and safelist type programs. Since these have been around a long time and are appealing on the surface, I want to address the pros and cons of each.

Traffic Exchanges

Traffic exchanges are programs like Trafficswarm that allow you to earn credits by viewing web pages that other members have published. In turn, you can use these credits to get exposure for your own web page in the rotation. You also have the option for purchasing credits, which are usually cheap and save you hours of time clicking through to other members’ sites.

There is much debate about the effectiveness of traffic exchanges. The bottom line – they are not the most efficient way to get good MLM leads, but if you use them correctly, you can get leads using them. The key is understanding what most members are clicking away trying to accomplish in these programs.

People using traffic exchanges are shooting for one thing mainly – getting exposure for their site or offer. They may endure hours of clicking through sites, to build up credits, and barely notice the pages they land on. You can sit and read or do other things and occasionally click a link to visit another site and earn credits, without actually paying any real attention to it. It becomes robotic and automated after a while.

If you want to use traffic exchanges as part of your online MLM business strategy, the only chance you have to make it worthwhile is using them to build your mailing list. You need to create a free ebook or report on a topic that will appeal to people using these programs. Why are they there? To get more traffic and leads. So, offer a report or ebook on a topic like “Ten Steps to More MLM Traffic” or “Five Free Ways to Get Qualified MLM Leads Online“.

Make sense? Once you have the report, create a series of auto-responder messages and set up an account with an email list manager like Aweber. When someone opts in to your list, you can promote your opportunity to them in whatever manner you want (there are smart ways to do this that are beyond the scope of this article, but the bottom line is providing value to your subscribers and not trying to cram your opportunity down their throat with hype and hoopla).

Safelists

Safelists are programs that you sign up in and agree to receive emails from other members in exchange for being able to send emails to them. The catch with these is that you are quite limited in how much mailing you can do as a “free” member. You almost always have to do a paid upgrade to make it worthwhile.

The major drawback to safelist advertising is that you are facing the same problems you face with email marketing in general. Many participants will set up secondary email accounts for these programs that they rarely if ever check. Paid members may have an option to opt out of receiving any member emails. Nonetheless, there are some people who actually scan the subject lines and open the ones that look interesting.

If you choose to use safelist marketing, follow the same basic strategy as for traffic exchanges – focus on creating a giveaway and build your list. With both, work hard on creating a good headline that will attract attention.

The Bottom Line

I want to make it clear that I don’t particularly recommend using traffic exchanges and safelists for promoting your online MLM business. The reason I am writing about them is that I know some MLM marketers who do get decent leads this way, and I realize that many are drawn to them because they are free or inexpensive to advertise with.

Just remember that people who have real success with these methods do it by focusing on getting opt-ins to their list so they can stay in touch and drip information and promotions to them over time. Nobody will sign up for your list unless they think there is something valuable in it for them.

I LOVE Spring Cleaning. Don’t You? Obviously, the actual work part is not anything to get excited about. But what I love about spring cleaning is that it is a time to clear out and clean up the old in order to make room for the new.

It is not spring, so why am I talking about spring cleaning? I am talking about it because it is exactly what I have felt that I need in my life lately. Although it’s not spring, it is the changing of the seasons again soon and us network marketing moms are headed into our busiest time of year. Not only the busiest time for our businesses, but the busiest time for our families as well. School starts again along with extra activities, obligations and all of the upcoming holidays.

So what does all of this have to do with Spring Cleaning for Network Marketing Moms? Well….I am going to be very honest with you about what has been going on with me lately. I have been feeling very flustered and overwhelmed. I have had way too many days lately where I felt like my head is spinning by the time lunch hits.

I have felt like there has been so many things bogging me down and holding me back. Nothing with my business, in fact, my business is well. Everything bogging me down is in my personal life, but it is starting to effect my business.

What I realized after a great conversation with some good friends of mine, is that I Need to Clear Out the Clutter in my life. It is what they had been working on themselves, and it is exactly what I needed to do too. I started feeling claustrophobic because I was not keeping up with my house the way I like to and I felt like I wasn’t giving my girls as much time as they deserve. My husband started getting stressed because he could feel my stress level rise….it was a mess!

My friends kept talking about clearing out the old and getting rid of the excess to make room for everything new. It made me realize that the whole point of spring cleaning is to clear everything out at the end of the winter season and get ready for summer. Right now I am in the same place except that I have stuff built up from summer months that I need to clear out.

I started going through my house one room at a time. I started thoroughly cleaning everything and going through junk in the closets and cabinets. I have to tell you, it felt SO GOOD! Something happens mentally when we do things on a physical level. I knew there was ‘stuff’ hanging around my house that didn’t need to be there and I knew that there were messes, like all of the sand in my laundry room from our many beach days, that I needed to get rid of.

Clearing all of this stuff out has put me in a MUCH better mental place to move forward and focus in my business. Maybe there are business related things that you need to clear out as well. Maybe your work space needs some sprucing up, maybe you are trying to stretch your business in too many directions and you need to cut some ties so you can focus on your main goals. Whatever it is, don’t be afraid to let it go.

It can be scary or uncomfortable letting go of or cleaning out certain things we have gotten comfortable with, but if we never make more room in our lives, we will never ever grow. Our lives can only get so full before we burst! Make sure that you aren’t holding yourself back from new things, experiences or opportunities by holding onto stuff that needs to be let go.

It is always a balancing act, but if we can remember to focus on ourselves and what we need to stay in our optimal peak state, then we cannot be stopped! Network Marketing Moms know how to get it done!

As an MLM’er, do you currently send Facebook messages to people to try and get them to take a look at your business opportunity or website?

If you do, then you’re running the RISK of having your Facebook account closed down or suspended. I’m going to show you how to AVOID having this happen to you.

Over the last 2-3 years being on Facebook, I’ve gradually seen the spam levels increase. It’s AMAZING how many spam event invitations, messages, group messages I currently receive. I’ve NO IDEA how people are getting my details, but I’m sure it’s got something to do with Facebook robots or software.

I’ve just finished reading a post about why Facebook spam could soon rival email spam, and I can see it happening right in front of my eyes.

I also hear horror stories of people I know who are in network marketing and MLM having their accounts shut down because they’ve sent out too many of the same messages. So we have to be VERY careful.

What is the Solution?

Before we look at the solution we need to know what spam is.

Spam is the use of electronic messaging systems (including most broadcast media, digital delivery systems) to send unsolicited bulk messages indiscriminately

Spam relies on users sending out 100,000′s of messages in the hope that someone will open them, click the link and buy… 99.9% of people don’t open spam or click the links!

If you’re currently using Facebook to send out a lot of the same message trying to pitch your business, you’d be MUCH BETTER:

• Sending a unique personal hello message to a new friend,
• Finding out more about them,
• Learning  about their challenges and problems
• Getting to know them
• Offering them a solution with your product/service

Yes, it takes time to build up relationships with people, but you’ll have MUCH MORE success with this approach rather that spamming people your MLM business opportunity link and ‘hoping’ they join your business.

If you’ve tried this approach before, then ask yourself… how many times has someone joined my business as a result of an unsolicited spam email?

If you didn’t ask for permission to send the link to your business opportunity, then you shouldn’t send it!

Enough said… be a relationship marketer and not a spammer.

I had a conversation last night with a member of my downline team. This gentleman is discouraged because he has presented his business to ten people (in person), and nobody has signed up. His question to me was, “what am I doing wrong”?

When working with someone in your downline, especially if they live far away and you’ve never met, it’s hard to know whether there is an obvious problem or not. Often, though, it isn’t that your downline associate is specifically doing something wrong, but rather it’s the nature of sponsoring in MLM and network marketing.

You might think, at first, that presenting to ten friends in person almost ensures that at least one will join you. This isn’t always the case. So much depends on where these potential business partners are in their life journey.

Let’s assume you have chosen a solid opportunity, with products that have reasonably broad appeal. There are a couple of things to consider here.

What Time is the Right Time?

Many of the most successful people in network marketing will tell you that, when first approached, they had no interest at all in this type of business, or any home business for that matter. A lot of people have jobs and careers that they enjoy, and put so much of their energy and interest in their career that there is no desire for a business.

However, always remember, things change. A corporate engineer who is happy and content with his chosen career today might become discouraged in a couple of years when his company starts cutting staff, or new jobs and projects become scarce. Even a professional with a reasonably secure position may think twice when they see the workforce around them being cut back.

I have a friend and mentor who is very successful in MLM and direct sales. She will testify that she had zero interest in this business until her son was born. At that time, she realized that leaving the corporate world and making money from home was the way she could stay home and watch her son grow up.

Things change! A presentation you make today may fall on deaf ears. Shake it off, and make it a point to stay in touch with that person consistently in the future. If things change, they will remember you.

Relationship Building Online and Offline

Network marketing is a “people business”. People want to work with other people they like and respect. Nobody wants to partner with someone who pushes an opportunity on them, and shows little or no interest in their unique situation.

When you have a brand new prospect, someone you haven’t met before, be sure to take time to talk to them about what THEY want from a home business. Jumping right in and highlighting all the benefits and perks of your opportunity may seem like the right thing to do, but hold back the enthusiasm just a bit and focus on your prospect.

Not only do people want to work with other people, they are also drawn to people who genuinely seem to care about them and what they are looking for. I know this sounds very obvious, but it’s surprising how many networkers forget to put the focus on the prospect.

The bottom line – don’t get discouraged when people don’t sign up right away. Always follow up in some fashion, and keep moving forward. I’ve had new associates join my business three years after our initial contact – in part because I’ve made it a point to follow up with them from time to time. Staying in touch helps assure your potential business partners that you are serious and committed to your business for the long term.

Imagine this … You know that I am a professional chef who cooks simply amazing, mouthwatering, wholesome organic food. I tell you about how I am going shopping for fresh, wild Alaskan salmon that was just flown into the Fulton Fish Market, the beautiful fresh herbs and roots I am going to buy from the best shop in Chinatown, the absolutely perfect, tender, yet very crisp baby greens and screaming fresh, totally organic veggies that I love buying at the Amish market in Union Square. I am going to grill that yummy salmon over cherry wood briquettes, accompany it with a light, fragrant lemongrass and ginger vinaigrette, all served over those crispy baby greens and lightly steamed crispy, crunchy veggies. Totally YUMMY !!

You are into all natural, all organic, super clean, super healthy food. WE are going to have dinner over at my house and you simply can’t wait to have some totally divine, super yummy, healthy food prepared for you by the Mistress of Gourmet Whole Organic Foods …. ME. You come over to my house, just about drooling already. You walk in the door and the smells are soooo tantalizing. Your tummy starts growling. We start chit-chatting over a nice glass of perfectly chilled Gewurztraminer and I excuse myself to bring the food from the kitchen.

You are STUNNED when you see the plate that I bring back to the table and put in front of you. STUNNED. Your jaw drops down … you start stuttering because you can’t believe you are actually seeing what you are looking at. I nonchalantly sit down at the table with you and I am ready to eat !!

“Rose, what is this?”

“Oh … I hope you don’t mind but I was crunched for time today, so I whipped up a totally tricked out version of Bavarian Carbonarra, I respond.”

“Ummm … what exactly is Bavarian Carbonarra?”, you ask.

Laughing I say, “Some people might call it Spam Casserole. I hope that you enjoy it. One of my Mom’s 1960′s revival recipes. It is almost an heirloom !! Bon Apetit !!”

Imagine my SHOCK when I get into work the next day and find out that you canceled your humongous Saturday night catering order with me. I try to connect with you to find out what is going on. NO ANSWER. For two days I try to connect with you to find out what happened. I am actually convinced that you had a family emergency and had to cancel your party. I have no idea what happened. I thought we had a good time at dinner the other day. We were laughing and joking … although you barely ate anything at all. Who knows … maybe YOU weren’t feeling well … You don’t come back to the store … so I never have the opportunity to find out what’s wrong from you.

A month later, a friend of mine, another whole food, organic caterer pops into the store. We are talking back and forth about business and life. She tells me thank you for sending her that catering  job that I couldn’t handle last month. I don’t have a clue what she is talking about and I tell her so.

“Oh you know … so and so … who is all about nothing but whole food and organic ingredients. She told me, that you told her, that some of the product that you got in for her party wasn’t up to her standards and that I would be able to take care of her better. So, thanks … she is shopping regularly at my store now and I am doing another party for her this weekend. Thanks for a great referral. Do you need some help getting really good products? My purveyors are AWESOME.  Well … got to run !!”

Talk about jaw dropping … pure and utter … SHOCK !!

MLM Bloggers Beware

A couple of weeks ago I wrote about CORE AUTHENTICTY and the importance of it when writing your posts. That little story above illustrates the absolute need for authenticity and congruency in EVERYTHING that you do through Social Networking and MLM Blogging is part of Social Networking.

If you portray yourself one way on your MLM Blog, Facebook, YouTube and Twitter and people fall in love with you, you simply cannot afford to do a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde when you email people that have opted into your email list. If people opt in to your list because they love what you are talking about and you are all about helping them, when you email them and all that you are doing is selling stuff … your stuff … other peoples stuff … they will opt out of your list never to be heard from again. You just blew your credibility with them forever. If you are lucky, they won’t report you for SPAM. If people are expecting one thing and you give them the complete opposite of what they were expecting, it really is SPAM.

As MLM Bloggers, we work too hard to build a list of people that are WILLING  to listen to what we have to say. Some people blog for YEARS in order to build a list of a couple of thousand subscribers. And, if those people are congruent with their “public” persona and their “email” persona, they have a lot of people CHOOSING to work with them in their MLM/Network Marketing opportunity. People feel like that person can be trusted. People feel that that person has integrity. People feel SAFE with them. And when people know you, like you and trust you … they do business with you.  It’s as simple as that.

If someone is teaching you that it is ok to email your list twice a day about some new THING that they should buy and they are not teaching you to segment your e-mail list, you will have serious problems. Your opt-out rate will skyrocket. And remember something, people talk. People talk about everyone and everything. And when people are feeling violated, they will tell EVERYONE they know about their horrible experience with you and how you are only in it to make money. They will tell other people to stay away from you and all of that hard work you did to create an awesome MLM blog will be flushed down the drain.

If you are not smart about how you market people will figure you out in a heartbeat. People are NOT stupid. And today, their BS-O-METERS start pinging faster than ever.

I recently heard an experienced network marketer tell people on a training call …

“Oh sure, I love people to death with the great information that I put on my blog so that they will optin to my list for more training. Sure, I send them some training. BUT once they are on my list, EVERY email that I send to them has an offer for them to buy something. And when I have a big promotion going on with some of my buddies, I email my whole  list AT LEAST twice a day… once early in the morning and once early in the evening. When I do that, sure I get people that opt out, but heck, that’s the cost of doing business on the internet. I am here to make money. They opted in, if they don’t like it, they can opt out.”

And, we wonder why people have such a bad opinion of internet network marketing and think that all internet network marketers are spammers.

We are all here to build our businesses and profit. We can do it with honor and integrity as MLM Bloggers by serving people in such a way that they FEEL GOOD about doing business with us. Our MLM Blogs are information and training portals that allow us teach what we know and to market products and services that will benefit our readers. The email lists that we are able to build through our MLM Blogging should be treated with the utmost respect, because those lists have EVERYTHING to do with us being able to be profitable business owners for a long time.

It is commonly said that the money is in the list. That is a LIE. The money is dependent on the quality of the relationships that you build and nurture over time with the people on that list.

By being congruent and authentic, we can serve the people that we are supposed to be serving. We can teach our teams to do the same thing. We can totally raise the standard of how people perceive internet network marketing through using ethical MLM Blogging and email practices. And we can build fabulous businesses for ourselves in the process !! When done correctly, you NEVER have to SELL a darn thing. People will voluntarily send wheelbarrows full of cash to you when the time is right for them.

She invited her best customers over to her house for dinner one night. She was always talking about eating healthy, light, top-quality organic food. The food she served that evening featured her favorite menu: BBQ Bay Back Ribs, 24 oz Prime Grilled Rib Eye Steaks, Buttermilk Fried Chicken, Velveeta Macaroni and Cheese, Cornbread with honey and butter, Slow Cooked Hocks and Collard Greens and Red Velvet Cake. Several of the guests found the Costco shopping bags in the trash in the kitchen. Sad but true, the owner of the store thought that everyone would appreciate having “real food” for a change and couldn’t understand why people were annoyed and stopped doing business with her.

Zoom Mobile – George Burton the founder of Primoris Music Group, launched Zoom Mobile last weekend in Las Vegas. Since about May of this year, George has been traveling across the USA in the Zoom Tour Bus, attracting founders to the company. They launched this last weekend with 100 of the 300 founders with them in Vegas.

George understands branding and loaned the Zoom Tour Bus, out to the rock band, Tomorrows Bad Seed, as they travel the country on the Vans Warped Tour.

Primerica Financial Services – The 2nd quarter results are in and they are looking good.

- Recruiting efforts are up with 13.6% more new recruits this quarter over a year ago.

- Primerica clients have increased their investing and saving by 26.3% over last quarter.

- And Primerica Life has seen the face amount of life insurance increase to $653 billion dollars, more than any other single Life Insurer in the world.

My Shopping Genie – David Freed has taken control of this company, but I still have concerns. Although the compensation plan has been changed from a Matric to a Binary, the bulk of the money paid to the distributors comes from the sale of “licensing agreements” to people who join the compensation structure. The end users never pay the company or distributors for anything. They are given a free desktop widget, they use to find the lowest cost items on the internet. Distributors are paid for the PPC (Pay Per Click) but this is will hardly amount to anything.

Based on current federal and state regulations, I question this business model. It sure looks a lot like the old Burn Lounge model.

Essence’ Worldwide – Founded by former rocker Michael Wienniger in 2009, this company is the foundation of a life long dream Michael has had or creating a new standard for Green Living. Michael made his mark in MLM by launching Power-Pops a few years ago. Today, this Weight loss Candy is #1 in its niche.

MediaNet group aka DubLi aka Dubli Network – I hit this company pretty hard in the beginning because of compliance issues. From a current review I did on their policies and procedures, it looks as if hiring MLM Attorneys Grimes & Reese was a great move for them.

However, I am still concerned that if the regulators comes looking at this company they will get hit for the reverse auction model. I do have to say since they did their reverse merger with MediaNet Group, they have come a long ways. For those who may not know MediaNet, they are the company who provides private labeled shopping portals for other companies. FHTM (Fortune High-Tech Marketing).

DNA aka Data Network Affiliates – My good friend George Madiou is a co-founder and CEO of this company, but I still have issues with what has and is going on with the company. For the 3rd or 4th time, the company has postponed or missed the launch date. First they said they launched in March, then it was changed to June, July and now August.

Without a doubt they have been hit with a few issues, but I can’t let them use that as an excuse for letting down the distributors. As a matter of fact Patrick Pretty reported this last week, that the BBB of South Florida has given DNA an “F” because of all that is happening. Now although, I don’t worry to much about the BBB, it does cause distributors issues when they are trying to recruit other people.

I’ll have Phil Piccolo the spokesman for DNA on Aces Radio Live this month and we will be asking the hard questions!

Qivana – This young company is raising the bar and setting a new standard of excellence in Direct Selling! In June the founders of this company took their founding distributors and top producers and they all went on a trip to St. Thomas. Now if you know about the U.S.V.I (U.S. Virgin islands), you take an extra suitcase so you can bring back duty free treasures.

What the Qivana family did, was to fill up their extra suitcases with toys, games and school supplies for the children of the Island. When they landed they gave all those gifts to the Boys & Girls Club of St. Thomas.

Folks, listen we are part of the greatest profession in the world. Lord knows we’re not perfect, but if we all stand together to hold each other accountable, then before you know it, the whole world will know just how great Direct Selling/MLM/Network Marketing truly is for changing their financial future.

I’ll admit, one of the main things that attracted me to promoting my network marketing business on-line was being able to automate the process and reduce the amount of real person to person contact I had to engage in. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not that I do not like talking to people. But when it came to business conversations, I didn’t want to be the annoying saleswoman that people wanted to hang up on.

Now, if you’ve been in the network marketing game for any time at all, you know that on-line or not, you have to make those connections if you want to build your business. But never the less, I still found it so much easier and ‘safer’ to make connections and conduct all of my business on-line. I had been burned once by promoting my MLM to friends and family and I was afraid to talk to anyone in my warm market about my products.

After being very encouraged by my up-line to work on my warm market strategies, for the past few weeks I have had fun taking on some warm market strategies with out hassling friends and family.

My new warm market best friend is meetup.com. It is not a new strategy for most network marketers. They are lots of local business groups for entrepreneurs to meet and network. In particular, there are quite a few groups for business women. Which is the perfect place for us MLM Moms and a great way to meet empowering women and build connections.

However, if you are a MLM Mom with young ones, it can be hard to find sitters for you children to attend some of the meetings. As a result, what I have done is joined a few mommy play date groups! I have met a lot of great local moms, almost all of them were career women before having kids, and they are very interested in my story and what I do from home. My goal is to empower moms to create success and financial freedom in their lives. What better group for me to connect myself with?

So, don’t walk, RUN over to meetup.com and find out what groups are in your area. Get involved right away! Most groups meet at least once a week so get yourself involved right away. Plus, winter is coming up and it is such a relief to have fun places to go and friends for your kids to play with during the long winter.

Also, school is coming up! If you have school aged kids then there is a good chance you are active with volunteering in their school. If not, sign yourself up! Not only are you helping out and showing you child that you care about them, you also have the opportunity to connect with lots of other parents who will probably ask you what it is that you do.

The key is, Don’t Be Afraid to Tell Them! You don’t want to make it long or drawn out. Just prepare a quick one to two sentence answer that will explain what you are involved in, not sound sales-y and will peak some curiosity so that They will ask You for more information.

For me, working my warm market was a Giant Cloud hanging over my head. But I have discovered that it’s not only easy, it’s super fun! I am Getting Out From Behind My Computer and Connecting With the Real World! My kids love getting out and I have a chance to follow my passion of connecting with and empowering women. It’s a total Win-Win!

So, MLM Moms, Don’t Hide Behind Your Computer!! You’ve got to get out of the house and build local connections too. If someone like me, who was very Scared of the warm market, could get out there and do it, so can you!!

How often do you visit different blogs in your niche and leave comments to posts you read there?

There are different viewpoints on the value of “blog commenting”. As a network marketer and home business builder, you might wonder whether taking time for this is really worth the effort.

A lot has been taught over time about the value of leaving blog comments. Most blogs allow you to leave a link to your own site when you make a comment. At one time, this was highly promoted as a way to increase your search engine rankings, because you could create literally dozens of links back to your site in a fairly short period of time. However, as usually happens when an easy way to boost search engine rankings is discovered and publicized, spammers showed up and ruin the party for everyone.

In the case of blog commenting, different types of automated software came on the market which made it easy to leave lots of worthless comments with a link back to a target site – all automated. Google, and smart bloggers, caught on and took steps to stop the abuse. Google devalued the importance of these links, and bloggers started to change their settings so that (at a minimum) comments from first time contributors had to be reviewed and approved before going live.

In today’s online environment, spending time leaving blog comments isn’t really worthwhile for purposes of increasing search engine ranking for selected keywords. How often have you seen comments, with the author’s name (this is the text of the link) being “MLM Guru”, “Make Money From Home”, or something similar? When you see that, you know in most cases that the commenter is shooting for better ranking in Google for that keyword or phrase. It used to work really well, but no longer.

So, is there still value in commenting on other peoples’ blogs? Yes!

The idea now, though, is to boost your online social presence and create credibility. If you’re using social media to build your personal brand and develop relationships, and you should, blog commenting is one simple part of an overall social media strategy that you can use.

Here are a few tips for making blog commenting work for you.

• Look for network marketers and other entrepreneurs who are active in social media – visit their blogs and bookmark those you like for commenting later.

• Visit popular blogs focused on success, motivation, and mindset – these will be frequented by home business builders and possibility thinkers just like you.

• Don’t worry about software that promises to find blogs that allow “do follow” links – this is a throwback to the days when commenting was all about getting backlinks to your own site, and that isn’t the best strategy now.

• Remember that your focus is on adding value to the post – short comments like “great post, I’ll be back soon” are obviously there to get a link back to something. Many blog owners won’t even let these go public. Focus on making intelligent comments that show you really read the post and got value from it.

• Intelligent comments with substance encourage blog visitors to click the link back to your site – and this is your ultimate goal. Make a good impression, get that click.

• Use your real name, not a keyword or phrase, unless you are building your brand around something other than your name.

• Get a gravatar http://en.gravatar.com/ so that your picture will appear next to your comments, instead of a generic graphic.

Finally, make blog commenting a part of your overall social strategy, but don’t put a high percentage of your available time into it. The key is getting exposure as many different ways as you can. People might see you active on Facebook, then visit your blog, read an article you published somewhere, then later see your comments and picture on other peoples’ blogs. It all adds up and creates the “YOU” brand that separates you from the crowd.
