Social Network Marketing: Master the Fundamentals Then Take It To The Bank

February 6, 2009

Social Network MarketingLet’s take a look at another effective MLM lead generation technique: Social Network Marketing.

Social Network Marketing absolutely works! It can be defined as participating in communities where your target audience hangs out so as to discuss news, opinions, share how-to’s, etc, with an end goal being generating MLM Leads for your .

What NOT to do:
Spam is a major problem with online social networking sites.  Many marketers are attempting to take shortcuts to increase lead generation and raise their SEO (search engine optimization) rankings by pitching products tactlessly, posting spammy invaluable comments with links, creating empty profiles, and on and on.  So in reality, none of those things can be considered as marketing strategies with social media and should be completely avoided.

What TO do:
To actually be doing social network marketing, you’ll be participating in the discussions (not necessarily controlling them) and encouraging them (not necessarily creating them)–adding value to the community.  Then if you’re successful, backlinks to your MLM Opportunity website or MLM Blog may be generated, content may be ranked and your messages may spread virally.

Mark Zuckerberg, founder and CEO of Facebook says it perfectly:
“Communities already exist.  Instead, think about how you can help that community do what it wants to do.”
THAT is the key.  Use social media for social marketing by contributing to the community and helping it do what it wants to do.

“Social marketing really requires understanding social networking etiquette first, because you have to build relationships and stay away from blatant over-promoting.
Geoff Livingston
, CEO of a Medial Relations Firm, dubbed “local blogging guru” by the Washington Post and author of “Now is Gone,”  gives an excellent summary of what it takes for proper social marketing:

“It’s a unique blend of networking skills (relationships); traditional PR skills (building goodwill), marketing skills (giving customers what they want), and customer service (delivering resolutions to issues).  So ultimately, the best social media marketers understand all of these disciplines.  It requires a convergence, making the jack of all trades suddenly and incredibly valuable.”

After understanding how crucial it is to begin with the fundamentals, let’s take a look at some of the tactics and strategies of social network marketing that will help set you apart from the crowd.

Help facilitate your ’social buzz’ by promoting your content to different functionalities of the social media platform, such as putting valuable content on blogs, groups, and forums.

The Importance of Personal Branding

Many will agree that social network marketing is about community-building, creativity, enthusiasm and requires a multi-tasking mindset.  It’s so important to become heavily networked, yet maintain ongoing relationships and interaction and as part of your everyday routine.

Social network marketing is synonymous with community and successful social media marketers are seen as leaders. They need to keep current on the latest technologies in addition to buzz surrounding the products and services they’re trying to market.

Above all, however, social media marketers’ contributions to the community should be selfless and aimed at benefiting those within the community, and it’s a win-win for everyone.

We are living in an unprecedented social experiment.

Never so much technology has been available to everyone.
From a very young age, children start with a computer connected to the Internet then graduate very quickly in the name of parent security with mobile phones, they are the new generation of connected kids.
For these kids social interactivity is happening through emails, SMS and of course what it is called “Social” sites with the likes of Facebook and others.

Thanks for the comment! It’s amazing how things have progressed and how so much is centering around social sites. Even traditional businesses see the huge benefits and are wanting to stay better connected with customers and clients, so they’re joining sites like Facebook and Twitter.

Thanks for the great post. Social media sites are a great place to make contacts and build relationships that is now a proven fact.

Though discussion interaction is important, I know I get more than annoyed when someone enters with a direct advertisement for their product or opportunity.

I am finding, the best approach for me is to use that medium to establish my presence and “brand” and let everything else build with time.

Thanks again,
Jim Hickey

I agree with you that there have been an increasing trend in spamming in social networking sites. Too many of cases instances around.

Web 2.0 is a place for exchanges of ideas, tips and establishing relationship. Perry Belcher ever once mentioned in his video that you should no sell on Twitter or any kind of social media sites. If you haven’t seen his video you can go to http://budurl.com/da69. Cheers!

Btw, great info here!

This is a valuable resource. Absolutely, social networking and Web 2.0 are places for adding value first. Perry Belcher has some excellent information there on what to do and what not to do on Twitter… advice that can be and should be used in all social networking efforts.

Thanks for sharing, Nicholas!

There are so many social networking sites now. So now is a better time than ever to jump on!

Jordan from Acai September 5, 2009 at 6:33 pm

Web 2.0 is very hard to keep up to date with, with all the social sites coming online. It certainly is a different ball-game.

Glen from Efusion September 13, 2009 at 2:34 am

It is true that web 2.0 is the way of the future for networking. But playing by the rules is essential.

Social networking has always proved beneficial to any business. Online its even easier with the advent of social media sites like facebook and twitter. The trouble is knowing when you are going overboard. After all you don’t want your personal brand to say you are pushy.

For some, Social Networking Sites may seem like they’re fading and the fad has already passed, but for those who are paying attention — they are growing now more than ever. They will continue to get bigger and right now is the best time to take advantage.
